Industry Leading Security Features
Messages are stored on Proton Mail servers using end-to-end encryption at all times and are transmitted securely between Proton servers and user devices. This largely eliminates the risk of message interception.

Zero Access to Your Email Content
Proton Mail's zero access architecture means that your data is encrypted in a way that makes it inaccessible to us. Data is encrypted on the client side using an encryption key that Proton does not have access to. This means we don't have the technical ability to decrypt your messages.

Open-Source Cryptography
Proton Mail's open-source software has been thoroughly vetted by security experts from around the world to ensure the highest levels of protection. Proton Mail only uses secure implementations of AES, RSA, along with OpenPGP, while all of the cryptographic libraries used are open source. By using open-source libraries, Proton Mail can guarantee that the encryption algorithms used do not have clandestinely built-in back doors.

Proton Mail in the press:

“Proton Mail is an email system which uses end-to-end encryption, making it impossible for outside parties to monitor.” Forbes

“A new email service being developed by a group from MIT that met at CERN promises to bring secure, encrypted email to the masses and keep sensitive information away from prying eyes.” Huffington Post

It's been over a year and 4.x remains almost unusable. Slide out menu is STILL broken, making navigation a nightmare and I constantly accidentally delete or archive things. I can't stress enough how much this breaks normal usage. Font size of UI elements remains mismatched as well. I've had to revert back to 3.x again, which thankfully still works.

Hi! The rewritten app was introduced to address the technical debt present in the previous versions, and significantly enhances the stability and reliability of the app. Please share more information regarding the issues you've experienced while using this version via the in-app 'Report a problem' feature, so we can help.

Trying to make the transition from Gmail. In this process I've discovered how important being able to apply formatting to the body of my email text is. This app does not permit it and it's driving me a bit crazy. It is otherwise pretty close to the Gmail app in terms of its other features as far as I can tell so far.

Pretty good so far, but there is one thing that the app REALLY should have. Got the paid account to be able to create multiple email addresses, but they all just lump into the same mailbox? Kind of defeats the purpose. Tried to manually accomplish with filter and folders, which is OK, but doesn't work with aliases that forward to each address. It's also a lot of extra work for something that seems like it should have an option to do automatically.

Thank you for your 4-star review! At this time, we offer multi-user support on our plans for families (https://proton.me/family)and businesses (https://proton.me/business/plans). On the plans for individuals, on the other hand, all email addresses function as aliases and share the same log i credentials and mailbox.

What’s new

- Toolbar actions in the Mailbox and Details screen can now be customized
- Additional Swipe Actions are now available
- Fixed an issue where free users with an additional @proton.me address were unable to change sender in Composer
- Fixed an issue where a conversation message sometimes wouldn’t get expanded when offline
- Minor fixes and improvements
